Academics

 

At the DDCC Early Learning Center, students will be encouraged to become life-long learnes.  Our students will achieve excellence because we use a wide variety of teaching methods, some tried and true while others are new, but proven to work.

Computers

 

During this class children will learn computer basics using developmentally appropriate software/computer games.  Children 3 to 5 years of age are developmentally ready to explore computers.  Computers help children in many areas such as nonverbal communication, problem solving, conceptual skills, etc...

Art appreciation

 

During this class children will work on specific projects according to a monthly theme.  The children will be taught to appreciate art in various forms and allowed to express themselves through drawing, painting, and other forms of creative artistic expression.

Language

 

During language cless, the children will be introduced to spanish.  This class will encourage the children to learn another language by utilizing materials, interactions, activities and conversations revolving around the spansich language.

Reading and writing

 

During this class children will be instructed in reading and writing with an emphasis on phonics, as well as sight words.  The children will be taught in two seperate groups to ensure the students are learning at a pace conistent with their individual reading or writin level. 

Music

 

During music class children will learn the names and sounds of instruments, while being encouraged to play with them.  The teacher will introduce the children to diiferent types of music, to include classical and jazz.  The goal of this class is to teach the children creative expressive through music.

Community service

 

Children will learn about the need for community involvement through service learning.  We believe service learning is a critical way for the children to connect to their communities through volunteerism in the classroom, at community centers, parks, neighborhoods, and in homes.  Children who learn through volunteerism, will better understand the issues affecting their community and grow into active, productive citizens.
